Tai Chi, also known as Tai Chi Chuan (太极拳), is an ancient Chinese martial art that has been practiced for centuries. It’s hard to pin down an exact date, but its roots go back over 2,000 years!

It evolved from traditional Chinese martial arts, but the system of slow, flowing movements that we associate with Tai Chi today began to take shape during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), though the full development of the art is often credited to the Chen family in the village of Chenjiagou in Henan Province, China.

Tai Chi as noted was initially developed for self-defense and martial arts purposes, but over time, it became more widely practiced as a form of exercise for health and wellness. The modern forms, especially the more gentle ones, focus less on combat and more on promoting relaxation, balance, and overall well-being.
