TMD leading to Total Replacement of left mandible

Hi Dr. Howell,
I am wondering if I could receive this treatment even though my jaw is prosthetic. I had TMD as a teen that went undiagnosed and when I was 18 the left disc dislocated during my wisdom teeth surgery. Failed treatments over the next 6 years and the wear & tear on my joints led to my surgery in 2004. My left mandible is titanium and I had a menisectomy done on the right side. The surgery fixed the function of my jaw, but the pain is even worse. I have a wonderful chronic pain doctor, but she is only able to keep me "comfortable". I am only 28 and I have been in pain over half my life. I am on narcotics, muscle relaxers, and anti-inflammatories. I am at my wits end and want to know if I am a candidate or if it would be dangerous with the condition of my jaw. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate your time.

Hi
NCR is the only treatment I know of that I would suggest for you, at least to start. After a few NCR treatment series, we would evaluate your situation (together) and determine if the NCR was enough, or what adjunct therapy(ies) we should consider adding to the mix. The NCR by itself is sometimes enough to get the pain situation under control so that your medication usage would become more bearable. Or additional therapy may need to be considered. So, if you can, get the NCR first and then figure out the rest at a later time.
I hope this information helps,
Dean Howell, ND
